What the extension reads
When you are on app.prolific.com in your own logged-in browser tab, the extension reads text that is already shown on the page:
- Rows of your Submissions history (study name, date, reward, status)
- The Balance, Pending and Summary figures
- On a study page: the study title, researcher name and study ID
- The completion code in the URL of the completion page (so the timer knows the study is over)
It can also import the official CSV export that Prolific offers on the Submissions page, if you choose to. It does not read survey content, researcher content, messages, cookies, tokens or anything on other websites.
Where your data is stored
Everything the extension reads is stored in Chrome’s extension storage on your own computer. There is no server, no account, no analytics and no telemetry. Nothing read from Prolific is ever sent anywhere.
You can export your data (CSV and JSON) at any time and delete all of it with the “Delete all data” control on the Account tab. Uninstalling the extension removes its storage.
Network
The extension makes no network requests at all. It does not contact Prolific’s servers, and it does not contact anyone else’s. There is nothing to check, sign in to, or pay for. If you want to support the project there is an optional “buy me a coffee” link on the Account tab; that is an ordinary link that opens a website in a new tab when you click it, nothing more.
What the extension does not do
- It never clicks, submits, reserves, starts, returns or otherwise interacts with any study or Prolific control.
- It never modifies Prolific’s pages or injects anything into them.
- It never makes network requests, to Prolific or to anyone else.
- It does not sell, share or transfer any data to anyone.
Permissions
- storage — save your data locally.
- scripting, activeTab, and access to app.prolific.com — load the read-only reader into a Prolific tab, and open the Submissions page when you click “Sync now”.
- notifications — optional desktop notifications when you reach a goal (generated locally).
